Sports

With all of our soccer fields, baseball fields, basketball courts and hockey rinks (many lit for night play), it's easy for campers to focus on competitive sports. Through our qualified coaches, instructors and specialists, we provide our campers the ability to pursue the competitive level with which they feel comfortable. Sportsmanship and fair play is always imperative at Lokanda as our campers reach new heights and develop and improve their skills. We are also involved in many intercamp tournaments for campers of all ages and make sure our campers have fun while playing!

Lokanda campers also enjoy our active indoor/outdoor state-of-the art gymnastics pavilion which houses professional equipment that includes high and low balance beams, uneven parallel bars and a large springboard tumbling floor. Also, our first-class air-conditioned fitness center includes treadmills, elliptical, stationary bikes, free weights as well as a large aerobics floor. Our trained instructors are always there to give the necessary guidance, training and support to our campers.

Soccer

Soccer has always played a prominent role because of our outstanding coaching staff. Our head specialist, Davey Hayes, comes from England and has running our soccer program for over 20 years! With his experience, we are able to provide great instruction, competition and fun. Campers learn basic dribbling exercises and then develop the skills necessary to master the art of controlling a ball during actual games.

Camp Lokanda is the only camp to have Cage Soccer! We just added a Cage Soccer arena to bring a different soccer element to camp. With enclosed walls and artificial turf, it is one of our hottest activities!

For campers who enjoy a higher level of competition there will be many opportunities to demonstrate their new skills. They can participate in our Mountain Conference tournaments, inter-camp games and our own World Cup!

Basketball

At Lokanda we are very lucky to have high school and college coaches working with our campers. We have traditionally maintained a commitment to excellence in both our boys and girls programs thanks to the outstanding level of coaching each summer.

We have 2 main courts which were recently renovated with new lighting, new baskets and an electronic scoreboard that gives us a top notch basketball facility. Baskets can be adjusted in height and courts are situated so that different stations can be set up to teach our campers basketball skills.

We've got a special court just for our Teen boys and our two indoor courts are a terrific venue on rainy days. Kids who commit to learning how to play Basketball will make great strides over the course of the summer.

Baseball & Softball

The fundamentals of batting, fielding and pitching are the cornerstones of the instructions our baseball and softball specialists provide. For our more advanced players, our coaches instruct on hit-and-run plays, rundowns and cut off plays. Our program features the following: 3 beautifully groomed fields (one lit for night play), pitching machines available for batting practice, and tournament play for our more advanced players & intercamp games.

Hockey

Roller Hockey fever swept Lokanda a long time ago and it has grown stronger with each passing year. With multiple rinks and our own hockey specialists, our hockey facilities and instruction are perfect for any camper to help develop their skills.

Our main rink is covered with an electronic scoreboard, bleachers, banners and has night time lighting for an experience our campers never forget.

Campers wishing to partake in our hockey program arrive with rollerblades and plenty of hockey equipment which allows them to participate in the fastest game in camp. The rinks also offer an opportunity for recreational rollerblading.

We provide each campus with a program that will help our campers learn how to skate better, pass better and develop a knack for goal scoring.

Gaga

One of the favorite activities at camp, Gaga lets our kids have a great time playing this fast and fun game.

With three new courts, Camp Lokanda is able to hold tournaments within our camp, as well as host many other camps in our annual Gaga tournament, where the winning camp get their name engraved on our wooden raccoon trophy!!

Lacrosse

Lacrosse is so popular for both boys and girls, we've incorporated a great lacrosse program that takes place on our own lacrosse field. With lights for night play, Camp Lokanda provides a great backdrop for the kids who love the game to improve their skills under the guidance of our lacrosse specialists.

Our instructors are incredibly creative and make the learning process fun from start to finish. Our younger campers learn how to pick up, throw, catch and cradle the ball. The staff uses innovative games and drills to help campers develop the skills necessary to become a proficient lacrosse player.

Tennis

Our regular tennis program includes weekly group lessons as well as open court time under the direction of our professional instructors who teach tennis all year round with great energy, fun and enthusiasm!

For campers who want to play more than two or three hours a week, we offer private tennis lesson through our Tennis Mini-Camp. Campers who sign up for this optional program receive additional hours of concentrated one-on-one instruction with one of our pros.

We also incorporate an internal tennis ladder where campers can play each other to move up the rankings. In addition to participating in tennis tournaments, Camp Lokanda also hosts a Mountain Conference Tennis Tournament, which always draws a large number of camps and competitors.

Golf

Whether you are a seasoned player or a beginner, you will love playing golf and receiving instruction from our wonderful staff. After being tested on the first day of camp, all golfers are assigned to playing groups based on their ability. All of our golfers get instruction in our sand traps and putting green during Optional Periods.

Once campers have learned the basics, they can play at local golf courses. While they are out on the links, they will receive pointers to improve their game and teach proper golf etiquette as well.

Gymnastics

Camp Lokanda's Gymnastics Pavilion has it all! Balance, strength, flexibility, stamina, and poise are just a few of the special qualities our campers develop under the direction and supervision of our experienced and qualified instructors.

Our Pavilion incorporates top USGA equipment and was designed with input from experts from Atlanta and Connecticut. A tumble track, uneven bars, balance beams, mini tramps, safety bolsters, and special flooring and mats for floor exercises make it possible for our campers to safely work on a wide range of activities.
