SURPRISE
BIRTHDAY BASH
TAKES PLACE AT
LOKANDA
Last March, a few
months before camp got started, Bruce, a Lokanda dad, woke up in
the middle of the night with a great idea!
Wouldn't
it be a lot of fun to make a surprise birthday party for his wife,
Pam, at Camp Lokanda next September. All of the guests would be
invited to stay overnight and the camp might be able to put
together an amazing party that everyone would really enjoy.
When Bruce called Ira with his idea, he was surprised to learn
that Lokanda had been hosting groups for many, many years during
its pre and post seasons. Over the next few months Bruce and Ira
worked on menus and activity schedules. Bruce did an amazing job
of swearing all of his 80 guests to secrecy, arranging for a
special cake in Pam's honor, and gathering all kinds of special
party favors for his guests.
Meanwhile, Ira was meeting with Chef Mike and the Kitchen Crew,
the post-camp Sports Staff, and the Housekeeping Staff. He even
arranged for the guests to come up to Lokanda on luxury buses.
"From the moment our guests got off their buses until it was time
to go home, we pulled out all of the stops and had non-stop fun
and good times," Ira told us.
"We had our boating docks open, we ran great sports activities,
the heated pool was open and so was our Fitness Center. It was
camp all over again- except that this time it was for adults
only!"
"We're very lucky to have Chef Mike, who has had an fantastic
career in catering, in charge of our culinary staff,"
Ira continued. "Not only was the food out of this world, but the table
displays that Mike made for each meal were truly unique and a
sight to behold."
"What made us happy was seeing our guests have the time of their
lives. Everyone enjoyed the Saturday night Cocktail Party before
dinner, the big dance with a monster sized hot and cold Viennese
table, the mini-Color War that we ran on Sunday morning, and the
Arts and Crafts sessions that were held in the Boutique Studio."
"Everyone had such a wonderful time, that the entire group is
coming back for an extended stay next September!"
"It looks like there will be lots more than 80 guests next
September 4th and 5th because last summer's guests have already
invited their friends to join them. They won't be celebrating
Pam's birthday again but they are planning to have the times of
their lives at Camp Lokanda."

"And Pam, everyone here at Camp Lokanda sincerely wishes you a
very Happy Birthday with many more to come. When you can be
surrounded by such wonderful and caring relatives and friends, its
easy to build fond memories together!"
